Say it with flowers

Well there’s nothing more a lady likes more than flowers, so here’s a way to surprise and delight at little expense. We used them to say thank you to all the staff at nursery (the novelty had worn off after making the 20th flower!).

Single bloom

So, you’ll need:-

  • lollipop sticks (or I’ve found posh coffee shop wooden stirrers are a cheaper alternative!)
  • tissue paper (assorted colours)
  • sticky tape/glue stick
  • small yoghurt drink bottle (for the vase)
  • green paper
  • foam shapes for decoration

Then cut 3 tissue paper circles of different sizes. If you have craft scissors, these give a great finish. Stick them on top of each other (a blob of glue stick works well) then stick them to the lollipop stick with sticky tape. You can stick a foam shape or pom pom in the middle for additional decoration, but make sure they’re not too heavy or the flower will fall over! Next, cut out 2 leaf shapes from green paper (we used these to write out ‘to’ and ‘from’), stick them to the lollipop stick and plonk it in the yoghurt bottle. You can use whatever you like to decorate the bottle and there you have a perennial bloom – eat your heart out Interflora!

    Question about the stirrers –
Do you go in and nick them or do you buy a coffee and then liberate a couple?

If you buy coffee I challenge they are cheaper than lolly sticks argument – so ner

Well I buy the coffee anyway and don’t take sugar, so when the need arises, I ‘liberate’ a few. That way I figure my caffeine top-up is even better value for money :-p
